The Departed (2006)

Gotta love Irish gangster flicks! The Departed is Martin Scorsese's grand return to the crime -drama, with a welcome cast as well. Like Goodfellas, which also holds a heavy hitting cast, delivers violence, intrigue, and wonderful character development. I can say that the film spends more time on the main characters' build up than on action sequences. The film has a tendency to suffer numerous peaks and lulls so don't bother seeing this flick if your only into action and a quick resolution. I made the mistake of going with someone who simply does not have the patience for such in depth chararacter development and storytelling. I will not spoil this film for you. But of quick note is Jack Nicholson's performance of crime boss, Frank Costello. This role is the kind we expect to see Jack in. He shines in his darkest character to date. Of further acknowledgement is Mark Wahlburg's portrayal of a street tough, smart ass, Irish cop. Though the performances of Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon were good, I felt that they were rather formulaic and in many scenes were carried by Alec Balwin's character, Captain Ellerby. Though his role is limited, Alec is a true performer and so convincing as the leader in the special unit trying to catch Costello.
I truly enjoyed this film, even though I feel it tried to either match or exceed Goodfellas in intensity and character development. You may find it to be a little over-the -top, but nonetheless, highly entertaining.

Greetings- I would like to make it clear that this is my first blog that I have ever constructed. Furthermore, I don't visit blogs regularly, and am sure there must be thousands maintaining subject matter surrounding films.

Being that this is my first blog, I chose subject matter that I am quite familiar with, as well as to steer away from more serious and controversial subject matter for my first time around.

That being said, the vision that I have for this blog is to bring to your attention numerous titles of films, and give a basic review of it. I may also just throw in funny or hopefully insightful comments of various scenes, performances, actors, directors, as well as very random nonsense. I think that it would just add to the entertainment of just watching the film(s) to have guests respond to my opinions and jests after they are posted.

So without any further delay, let's take a look at.......
